Hi All
Can anyone help with a maker for this lovely parrot decanter. It has four different birds engraved on it and is very well made.

Hi Glass is good (do you have a name)? :hi:
I found it in a charity shop - cracked I'm afraid - but a wonderful piece all the same and it displays fine. I never mind damaged items at small cost, they are a great way to learn and if you get it wrong it doesn't matter.

Hi Hazel, I'm Julia. Mum and I both like glass and I've spent lots of time on the internet trying to identify our 'finds'. Like me, mum likes plain glass, but also has quite a collection of murano animals, she also has three of the large blown fishes in various sizes. I can't afford expensive pieces, but we raid the charity shops and boot fairs - for me at least in the hope that I will find something valuable. I quite like the more modern Walther glass pieces, but managed to find some of the older Walther glass 'pink' dishes at a fair the other week (£8 for all three I got ;D). I like the large 'cake' plates and stands that they do. Given the time I've spent searching this site is quite a find and I have a number of pieces I'd like to test the masses on, but I have to get to grips with his taking the pictures lark - I only have a compact digi camera, and its testing my skills at the moment ::)

Google picassa is useful for auto fixing pictures to give the best clarity. It is free to download from google and allows you to upload to web albums for storing your pictures.

Guessing it might be a special, engraved commission for someone, you could look at the shape and the stopper rather than the parrots if you see what I mean?

Have to say I agree with the others, what a cracking find - imperfect or not. I suggest a base shot would give us a better idea of the basic shape. And perhaps a close up of the stopper would be useful.

Thanks for that Hazel. Great phots. Not a shape I know!
Note #1 - Apart from the engraved birds, the verticals & the curved portions of the neck & stopper appear ground & not fire-polished afterwards. That would indicate a substantial age I suspect.
Note #2 - Have you noticed the small scatch marks on the inside of the bottle lip. Usually they are matched on the stopper. I have seen them used as a pawnbrokers mark so the stopper matches the bottle.
