Hi can anyone tell me what the name of this bird is please? I think it says royal viking sun is that its name or does it say something else? I would be most grateful if someone can decipher it for me. Any info. on this would be a godsend, thank you.

Looking at "Birds. Small miracles", a little book with a load of Oiva Toikka birds illustrated, it is a Little Tern (designed 2002), dimensions are quoted as 75 x 110mm. The rest of the engraving sounds like a second company's name.

Thank you John, I just thouhgt all the writting looked the same?
-
It may have been marked as a corporate gift or a souvenir. The Royal Viking Sun is/was a cruise ship http://www.simplonpc.co.uk/SanFran2RVSun.html

Sorry no idea what's engraved apart from what I can make out, O. Toikka and Nuutajarvi on the one side and on the other I can see that there is more than just Royal Viking Sun but can't see it clearly in this photo.
John
Does it also have engraved "built by Wartsila......."?
-
yes it has built by whoever that name is
-
By jove, you've cracked it John. Yes it does say built by Wärtsilä and it was, in 1988. This must be an anniversary piece, perhaps.

It may have been a gift to crew or a passenger, is it M/S (motor ship) Royal Viking Sun? Would still like to work out the rest of it, how about some more photos of the engraving? ;D

There's a lot of these birds around nominated to companies and banks for business gifts, for book clubs sold as collectibles etc., some may be more valuable for example if the design was exclusively made only for a small lot, some are like mass produced picked from the line.

Hi I hope mine isn't too common anyway here is a better pic of the base taken with flash. any help with how common these are would be a great help.

Check ebay for a few weeks if you see some they are probably not rare. Smaller, less complicated (and less expensive) items tend to sell in greater quantities....
Still can't make out the last word.

Still can't make out the last word.
John
Oh. All the words here:
"M/S Royal Viking Sun,
built by Wärtsilä Marine
O.Toikka
Nuutajärvi"
-
Of course, that makes perfect sense! :sun:
