Hi I have a piece of what I believe is Da Ros. It has a Cenedese sticker. It is a huge shark fin shaped vase encased in black glass with 3 cane running down the piece. I was told it had been displayed in the biennale in the late 50s early 60s. Can anyone shed any light on it please?

Hi PL79 without a picture it is very difficult, almost impossible, for anyone to help you. It sounds like it might be an interesting piece so stick a photo up here it is very easy.

Hi and welcome to the board. We have a picture help topic here to get you started: http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,6522.0.html

I've seen other similar shapes but never one cased like this in black glass with the 3 cane running through it, one red, one green one blue, it weighs mnore than 5kg is 14 inches tall and 8 inches wide.

Sorry no one has replied but for me I have never seen anything even remotely like it.
Could be interesting and maybe a one off if it was shown at a biennale. Does it have a Cenendese signature on the bottom?
-
Hi thanks for answering, there is no Cenedese signature on the bottom. There is a blue and silver Murano Cenedese vetri shield sticker, I've tried to show it in the photos. On the base there is a green rectangular sticker with the number B59231 on it.

Yes I saw the sticker.
Maybe Svazzo or one of the other experts who come by from time to time will have some idea about it. I am sure Anita (txsilver) will have looked at it as she does nearly all of the ID's here. If she has nothing to say she would most probably say nothing.
My only other thought is that it might be a piece out of design and arts in Germany (they are on ebay and the web). They have many Cenedese pieces. If you sent her a picture you might get a response but I have never done it, only ever bought from her.

ardy, I saw the vase, but couldn't add anything useful. Marina Barovier has a couple of things by Da Ros in her book on glass animals. The pieces have a bit of the same spirit, but are totally different. The vase does have the Da Ros look about it. Da Ros designed many of the Cenedese pieces, so it was probably designed by him. I don't know if it was any of the major shows, however. I wondered when I saw it how difficult it might have been to execute it.

Does anyone know how I can find out about pieces exhibited in the biennale for different years? Are there catalogues? If so can I get one?
-
Hi PL79,
Yes, they should have it on record. Here is how to contact them.

I wish you the best of luck and please write back if you find anything out. I would like to know because your piece is very interesting.

Thank you so much for the link. It looks as if I will have to visit the archive in person. How wonderful to have an excuse, not that I need an excuse. I love Venice!

Has anyone ever seen a book "Il vetro di Murano alle Biennali 1895-1972 " I know there is a copy in the V+A library and it may help with the identification of my shark piece.?
I have had some super links leading from the Murano zoo leading to a catalogue of Antonio Da Ros's works that I am now expecting delivery of any day.
PS If you like to read, try the Murano Glassblower what a super story with lots of factual info on what it is/was like to be a venetian glass blower!
