Nic's shot glass with strange and amazing optical effects reminded me of this hand-formed bird I bought years ago. It has a small, neat, but unpolished pontil scar. I always had it pinned for the colour being some sort of heat-reactive effect, with the bone ash that was used for opalescent glass or something similar. Would love comments, both on who may have made it and what the colourant might be.
Pictures show the piece under three lighting conditions: fluorescent, with a flash, held to the light
Dimensions 9 x 6 cm (3.5 x 2 inches)
And yes, I will provide a pontil scar picture at some point... :)

A similar but not identical piece (http://www.rubylane.com/item/605831-258/Fratelli-Toso-Pale-Blue-Opalino), labelled, by Fratelli Toso. The Toso piece has bubbles, while mine doesn't. Could they be related?

Hi, Cathy. I looked at your bird earlier, but didn't know who made it. It doesn't look like a Fratelli Toso bird. The tail and head are all wrong for Toso. I can't say that yours is not Murano glass, but there are so many possibilities. These birds can be tough!

Thanks Anita. I just love the optical effects of these (I have three), whoever made them.
