:hi: there:
I have been wondering about this item. I guess it is a decanter for mixing items, or for getting them cold so no ice in the drink (or Martini) ?? It is clear with a Black/Gold Retro Design on it. It is mint condition as the seal thing around the top is in such nice condition too. The little cap has measurements on it....and the whole piece is just in really good condition. I had this for a few years, but just recently found it ( :spls2: ) here. I checked to see if I had posted it before, but could not find anything -- so I do not think I have. It is about 9.5 inches tall, and about 4 inches wide. Is is Czech, or what? Any ideas on the maker, and the year.
Also when you take the top cap off, the inside top has like perforated holes in it. Is this for pouring out a drink without getting ice in it??
Thanks in advance (TIA)

Also I could not find an writing on the metal part at all (unless I am blind??). Here is a couple other pics to show the inside seal, and the lid. Thanks

It is a cocktail shaker. The ounce measurements allowed the user to get the proportions right.

Lol....yeah, one of those things. I am more the *twist* the-cap-off BEER Girl.....lol. No wonder I could not think of the name.
Wonder if it might be from around the 1940's as I did find some patents for these type of shakers....see if I can find it again.

That is an attractive shaker... judging from the base, it appears to be made of quite thick glass. Is that true? (Don't know about the maker, but looking at the seal and condition, I do have a feeling it's newer than the 1940s).
BTW: I think we Canadian gals are just too classy for these shaker-things. While you're a twist off the cap beer girl, I measure drinks with my fingers... 2 fingers high for a light drink, 3 fingers for a strong drink. :24:

Good thing you do not have 8 fingers on ONE hand... ;D
Actually I have this for about 19 years myself now. Bought it when my son was a :baby: at a garage sale. I do not think it is newer IMHO (??) but I sometimes think that there are items that are gotten as gifts years ago, and then was put in the China Cabinet to *sit* there for years, and years -- not used. As somebody might have gotten it for a gift, but then never used it -- and just stuck it away.
The look of it reminds me of Czech -- or possibly something like *Inland Glass* that used to make things with Gold and Black design in the 60's era. So I am still just guessing here.....but I think it is really sharp looking.
:sm: ...but then I wear Glasses....LOL

Hi there, I don't have any engraved glasses on Ebay, nor do I do Ebay at all.....Unless you mean the Glasses on my Face 8) :24:
sorry forgot - the shaker is PODBIRA Novy Bor Czech
So that is a Confirmation that the Shaker is CZECH !
Is that the maker's name/ or the company? (Sorry when it comes to Czech things, I can never tell what is a name, or a Company -- since the names are a bit difficult for me to understand :spls: I can never tell which is which -- as the names are not like Peter, Paul, and mary...LOL )
Do you have a year for this item?
Thanks so much claretjugcollector for the info.............. :kissy:
-
oh my fault - there is an ebayseller with a similar name offerings pair of nice glasses .. anyway --
Brothers podbira = company about 1930/35
Haida is the german name for Novy Bor.
:bat:
-
lol and :spls:
Who is the Ebayer seller with a name like me? Would like to see
Glass shaker: Now I am confused. You mention Haida is a german name for Novy Bor. What is Haida? What is Novy Bor? I take it these was made by Brothers Podbira ( and would this date that from then?)
I am not finding a lot of stuff googling here -- and is the Name Podbira, or Podbara -- so not really sure which is the spelling.
Can you find any links to a similar cocktail decanter as this -- on the net, or info ..
Thanks as always :kissy: .

:thud:
maker : brothers podbira about 1930 - they were known for there design consisting of gold & black lines on glass
Haida ( geman name ) = town
Novy bor ( Czech name ) = Haida
and now you take your shaker and make me a martini - Shaken, not stirred :sm:

 Thank you so Much !! So this would date that from that era. Looks like it was hardly used -- and now I have to make you a Martini in it. Might be scary, never made a martini.
How about a beer? :24:
(...........whoops, back on Track here before we are sent to the Cafe to get Drunk.....LOL........... )
I really like this Cocktail shaker - forgot I had it in all my *stuff* here. I think it is kinda sharp/striking looking. Thanks again !! The drink is on it way...

Rose, I'm very impressed with you -- you were right about the date! I would have given an arm (or at least a finger) that it was a bit newer.
Way to go! :kissy:

Thanks, and you can give away an arm, or a finger -- but never give away a kidney :kissy:
You say were impressed......as just the opposite, I am getting older. As you get older you kinda remember these types of things. So that is funny.
I do not think I am learning *more* -- I just think I am remembering *an era* AS I grow older :24: :-\ :thud:

What the poopie are you talking about??? You were born in 1960, not the 30s!!!! Now don't be so humble... I still choose to be impressed. :)

:24: :24: yeah -- but that was the stuff sitting around in the China Cabinets when we go to peoples places and you see it, so that is how I kinda remember (or thought) it might be.
After all, I still remember Black and White TV....and a lucky guess here for that item. I was *hoping* it was that old. I do have some older mags here that I browse through looking at the *things in the background* of the ads. You know those home, living room ads.
There is education everywhere for glass......(I am back on topic ;D)
-
We had a black and white TV up until 1979 :).

LOL......lookie what I found today, another one :hiclp: :chky: The only difference is this one is missing the removable little measuring lid on the top. Paid a whole $5.99 for it, and of course..............I had to have it.
;D Now I have a Pair !!

Think the perforated bit, was to sift out things like e.g. the 'threads' you sometimes get when you add a raw egg to things, also, the Ebay seller was called, I think, sentimentalrose, the same thought that CJC had, had also occurred to me!

LOL -- here the truth from the Horse's mouth. Nope, I do not have an Ebay store, or do anything with Ebay. All I have is a home full of *stuff* - but it is stuff I like. I have never bought an item off Ebay because I do not even have a paypal account. My son has bought a couple (car) things off Ebay for his car, but Nope I am just here. Besides that -- my *pics* are better than that persons pics :24: :24: I do like Photography and had taken classes years ago....
Nope - I am not on Ebay at all for anything - Honest - except to use it for research. I sometimes <drool> over things, but that is as far as it goes.
As for this piece of glass -- I found this other matching cocktail shaker at a Thrift Store here. After you guys identified the other one (and the age) I thought I better grab this other one when I saw it there.
That where I hunt....garage sales, thrift stores, Flea markets......and Glad I found this other one there...

correct it was sentimentalrose now i remember :hiclp:
