Title: Art Deco Decanter, probably Bohemian, Novy Bor??
Post by: Andy on September 24, 2010, 11:11:41 AM
I was contacted by new members, Geoff and Edi, they were having trouble uploading pictures, and asked
if i could help, hopefully ive resized them correctly.
The set was a gift to them in 1969, and have been told they are probably Czech in origin.
I would say most likely Czech/ Bohemian , Art Deco 1930s. Ive found a page from a c1930 brochure
of decanters by Karel Palda glassworks Novy Bor, Bohemia, in Andy Mcconnells book 'the decanter' page 513,
that are very similar in style, does anyone think this is possible, or have any other suggestions??
Decanter is 11inches and 1.13kg, there were 6 matching glasses (sadly now only 5)

I will send this link to Geoff, any comments welcome.
Cheers,
Andy

There was something which, from memory, was similar on Antiques Roadshow very recently, which Andy McConnell id'd as (I think) Palda - it would be worth sending Andy an email and asking what he thinks though.

I will leave it to Geoff and Edi if they want to email Andy McConnell, i remember it on the TV, not sure of what he valued it at though.

It looks really like Haida (Novy Bor) glass.
But attention, there is a lot of recent copies at the market now!!!

I will take a look later.
