Hi friends,
in past lives I surely was a good boy becouse in current life I am so lucky
I was invited to presentation of one from the best Czech/Czechoslovak glass designers Mr. Jiri Suhajek (* 14.4. 1943 Pardubice ) performed in Ajeto Glasswork in Novy Bor yesterday.
Mr Suhajek presented how easy he blows his famous birds, within few minutes the glass statue is here. Note please at picture also Suhajek's Robot statue behind and note also sitting man - he is another Czech glass genius Mr. Rene Roubicek (* 23. 1. 1922 Praha) with his grandson.

Jindrich, you certainly are lucky! Thank you for sharing your photos again... they're wonderful!
P.S. Is vodka an integral part of glassblowing? From all the pictures you've shown us, past and present, it seems as if there is always alcohol somewhere... ;)
-
Well, I do no know how Vodka bottle had appeared there, becouse I am sure, that Mr. Suhajek did drink Slivovice (the plum spirit), you can recognise it easy by smell :-). The possible explanation is, that it was home made Slivovice, so old bottle from Vodka was used as container.
Ajeto Glasswork presentations are performed in furnace adjacent to restaurant see www.ajetoglass.com so some alcohol is present there. If fact, glassblowers use to drink mostly beer only, but in amount you cannot even imagine.
In this particular issue I am not so lucky, becouse Novy Bor is about 100 km from my home and we have zero alcohol limit for drivers :-)

A terrific demonstration by a legendary Czech glassmaster and designer! It must have been thrilling to see him at work, great photographs too,

If I remember correctly, Jiri was the first student from Czechoslovakia to study at the RCA under Sam Herman, at a time when it was not possible for Czech artists to physically work with hot glass themselves, as opposed to directing factory workers.
In our Czech glass exhibition in Piccadilly around 1985 we showed his work to great acclaim and one of his seated figures was purchased by CMOG.
Please do give him my best regards when you see him, Jindrich
