Post by: malcmat on October 10, 2010, 08:59:04 PM
Hi, could you possibly know when this P/W was made and the name of the design please.
It has the label intact, Isle of wight glass made in England, 3 inch dia and 1.75 inches high. The base is ground flat and polished. Colour pink [ ish ]with gold design round the outside with a clear spot on top of the P/W
many thanks

Is this pink azurene maybe?  If it is (and I'm not the best person to answer this question :) ) it says in the book it was introduced in 1979 until it was discontinued in 1994 but then reintroduced in 2003.  Source - Mark Hill's book on Michael Harris.

I suggest you have a good look at http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,36125.0.html where a similar weight was talked about.  I notice the tarnished effect which is discussed there.  I rather suspect you do have a Red Azurene and that it is an earlier version.

Thanks Ross and M for the information and that it is one of the earlier P/W from the Isle of Wight. I took your advice and lightly cleaned it. It really was grubby and as you can see it the silver decoration became  more prominent.

It looks pink to me - the colour comes from little bits of clear cranberry enamel on the surface of the gather.

Red is opaque and a strange orangey pink shade.
Definitely Azurene, and there is no better info. than that in Mark's book.
