Title: Curious Pink Tinged Ribbed/Hooped Decanter
Post by: Tim on October 12, 2010, 01:35:13 PM
Hi all it's been a long time since I posted. Can anyone please help identify this curious little fellow?

It stands about 24cm high with stopper and is approximately 9cm diameter across the base (which has an even round polished pontil (fairly reminiscent of a Whitefriars piece). It also has a very slight pink/mauve tint when compared against properly clear glass.

Tim - did you manage to identify this?  I have one too, also with the polished pontil, although mine is completely clear glass, 18cm (7 1/8") tall with stopper :

I've done quite a bit of research without a definitive answer.  The Czech glass company, Artel, make a liquer decanter and glasses in the same style, but it only has 6 bands/hoops and has a longer neck.  They do one in a pinky opalescent glass - I cannot enlarge your pictures due to some sort of PC glitch, so I haven't seen the detail on yours.

I have seen this style referred to as a "traditional Czech design" and, given the amount of wear on the bottom of mine I suspect it might be an earlier example, but that's as far as I got.

Hope it helps
Cat

For some reason the board didn't like opening the images, but I've removed and re-added them and all seems to be working properly again now.
