Post by: Frank on October 12, 2010, 04:42:19 PM
New article on Scotland's Glass LINK (http://www.scotlandsglass.co.uk/cms/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=154:elizabeth-mcclure&catid=19:scottish-glass-makers-h-m&Itemid=12)

Does anyone have examples of her work?

 :'( I wish.....
I do have a piece by Rachel Elliott though, Frank - from the SGS Shine Exhibition in Queen's Gallery mentioned in the SGS lecture - images of her cast glass garden sheds were shown. I got one on Friday.

The last one is with a Werther's sweetie next to it, for scale.

I think Frank's looking for images which can be used on the Scotland's Glass website, shiney.
That means not images which are copyrighted to anybody else.

I have a couple of pieces of Elizabeth's in my collection.  Her work is quite widely published, but I can send images if that helps.  I have interviewed Elizabeth as part of my research into the history of glass in New Zealand

That would be great Stuart, mininimum size 800 pixels please, email to left of this post. I would also be happy to post an article based on that interview if you are interested. It can include a link to your blog.

We have a couple of Elizabeth McClure's from her time in Canberra in the late 1980s. Are you still looking for photos?

Sorry for the delay in posting these - I got rather buried in work.

The scent bottle is signed Elizabeth McClure © EM 9.93 N.Z. and was one of the first pieces Elizabeth exhibited on her return to New Zealand in 1993.  The bowl is a more substantial piece from a major exhibition held at the Dowse Art Museum in Lower Hutt in 2001, and is signed Elizabeth McClure Seasons of Change #72 'Serenity' © NZ 9.01.  The third piece is from 2003, in an exhibition to coincide with the America's Cup yacht races in Auckland, and is signed Elizabeth McClure Marui V.2.2003 © NZ #3.

Enjoy, as I do.

Wonderful!
No need to apologise for a very brief delay - you do have a life to live.   :sun:
Just these three pieces demonstrate a very wide variety of difficult techniques she has mastered - and such different pieces in themselves - thank-you indeed. :smg:

Hi Stuart and thanks for the photos.

Here are two more items by Elizabeth McClure.

The first is 17.5cm high by 25cm diameter and inscribed "Elizabeth McClure 1989 Aus 9 ©". There may also be a numeral 5 or 6 between the surname and the year. It was made while McClure was working at the Canberra School of Art (1987-1992). It is clearly a relative of a famous item in the Craft Australia collection viewable here (http://www.flickr.com/photos/craftaustralia/5373995103/). It is painted in enamels and possibly influenced by Isgard Moje-Wohlgemuth, who had visited the School a few years earlier. An interesting history of the School - including photographs of McClure at work - can be found here (http://eview.anu.edu.au/school_art/pdf/whole01.pdf).

The second item is 21cm high by 9cm diameter and is inscribed "E=McC © '88". The design is trailed on and the piece is frosted on the outside (acid etched?). Interestingly, we found a similar piece recently in a second-hand shop, just slightly taller and smaller in girth and in clear glass. It has the same signature and date. Even more interesting, a similar item to this latter one, but unsigned, was offered for sale just last year in the glass workshop sale at the School, in which they raise funds by clearing out the storage cupboards.

I will send higher resolution photos to Frank.
