Hi, I'm wondering if anyone know of this design by Venini? :-\

i don't recognize it from the Venini books I have. Do you have a picture of the base and the identifying marks saying Venini? Height and weight would help, too.

Whilst there's a passing resemblance to Wirkkala's 'Coreani' series (if you squint), my overwhelming instinct is that this vase is very modern Polish.
-
Hi there....Looks like labels on the other side, or what?? Or Price labels?? Just noticed them, so was wondering... ;)
-
I saw it online the other day saying "Murano vase, base marked Venini 15" Its not to far from me so I was going to look at it in real life.
I can't find nothing like this by Venini so I thought I would ask the experts ;)
They just stickers with the price I think.

Venini 15 isn't too convincing. My first reaction was like Nic's: modern Polish or Romanian. I'd love to be wrong here so you should have a look. The various Venini signatures can be found on line and I would recommend looking at them before you go.

Makora, Krosno, is a fair possibility if the signature does look a bit iffy: http://www.makora.com/pg/en/gallery.html
-
Thanks I'll have a look at them its a shame they don't have a picture of the base. I think the 15" is just the size of the glass.
-
I have one of the Wirkkala incalmo pieces - and it is not clear cased but lightweight. The signature should be very small, single line needle engraved "Venini Italia".
-
Okay I've just got a picture of the base. Not the venini signature I was expecting.

The label is a well known one, and, if I remember correctly, there are doubts about it being a Murano company, rather the glass is made elsewhere in the "Murano style." I don't why someone would go to the trouble of marking the piece and then leave the label on.

Back to Poland, it seems!
-
I think it's more likely Italy, Nic. The label has been around for quite while.

But the label has been picked at on one side and are they usually on the bottom?
-
True enough about the label being picked. On the other hand, it's not unusual for Murano labels to be on the bottom, so that's not much of a clue. Judging by the glass alone, you're right if you're suggesting it could be Polish.
Shineyobjects, just as a matter of interest, can you tell us what price the seller was looking for?

Well it up at auction est £50-70.
-
Well, that 50 - 70 pounds I wouldn't consider spending.
Thanks.

Sounds like they're not convinced it's Venini either with that estimate.
-
It looks like the signature and label were added by someone who doesn't know anything about Murano glass. The signature is funny. I have the feeling the label is not original. I thought maybe it had come off the spot where the other label remnant is, but then the last couple of messages made me think. The lavorazione arte Murano label is usually very visible on the side of vases or inside bowls. I can't think of any that are hidden on the bottom. I wonder if someone thought that this particularly "Murano" label would help enhance the value of their "Venini & C" vase. Love it!

Hehe, Well its odd the auction house don't really know glass to well they had it up as venani too! I thought "Ohh lovely find... then I saw the base"
I'll find out how much it goes for on wednesday I hope no one gets stung :'(
