Title: Just gotta show this off.
Post by: glasstrufflehunter on October 22, 2010, 11:47:10 PM
Every year I get a 'special' done by John Deacons. This year's has lampwork by Allan Scott. It's my first one by him. I am very happy with it. It's probably the only paperweight done by an artist that features a Sequoia. The ground is deep blue aventurine. I love Deacons' aventurine grounds.

I'm Deborah and Hubby was very pleased. ;D We talk about what sort of design we want together. We do one every year for our anniversary. Because of the nature of them it may take months to get them but they're always worth the wait. Next year's is going to be a porthole crown -a very neat design that Deacons' is currently making.

This year's featured a tree we had seen on our last trip to Sequoia. From a mountainside I could look into the top of one of the giant trees It looked like someone had put a whole 'nuther tree onto the crown. You could see the splay of branches and a neat mushroom top. I sent a drawing in and Allan Scott replicated it nicely.

I also have a thing for night sky paperweights. I have never seen one on aventurine, though I am sure they are out there. The stars are so neat and tiny. 23 of them for 23 years.

Hubby's gonna take it to work to show it off.  ;D

Deborah, your anniversary weight is absolutely wonderful!!!  The Giant Sequoias are amazing, and to think, some of them are estimated to be over 2000 years old!  It is humbling to stand beside one of these gentle giants.  I, like you, am a great fan of the night sky.  You and your hubby had a fantastic idea, and it turned out so very well.  Thanks for posting it!

Happy Anniversary with many more to come ..... Lily  :hi:
