The vase measures 20cm (8 inches), is very heavy and thickly set. The base has a polished pontil and the base edges have many light use scratches. Probably 50's?
-
It has the look of some large French pieces I've seen - mostly big fruit bowls in sweeping designs with optical features - I don't know anything more about them then that though.
-
Thanks Sue,
It does have the style look of some pieces from the Art Vannes factory but this one is not etched with their dashed square and the "Art Vannes France" , their pieces always were from what I can gather. This said, their are some pieces that look exactly the same on the nets "Image" search that state they are indeed "Art Vannes". Confused
-
I have also seem a similarity with a couple of val St Lambert pieces but not enough to be "the same", also, this pice as I said is not marked. The Art Vannes pieces seem to be the closest resemblance so far.
-
First thing I thought of when I saw it was Vannes. I have had a couple and seen similar Did all pieces have engraved marks?

As per the advice of others above -- Is this it????

This is the link I found that started the Art Vannes idea originally, but so far, that is the only exact link that I found. I states the vase is "Stamped" with "Vannes French Art" where all others are acid etched "Art Vannes France" which confused me. I found other Art Vanne vases similar which had a more wavey top rim as this one does here http://www.goantiques.com/scripts/images,id,2078278.html#
Maybe I am being too picky but I would like to see at least one more, at least with the correctly worded or shown base etching. I will keep searching.

"Stamped" with "Vannes French Art"
I suspect that is just seller error, seeing what she thought it ought to say rather than what it actually said, which to her mind didn't make sense because is French. There is no picture of the mark. Why don't you ask her to look again?
-
They are usually marked but not always, I think we have had a similar discussion on the board before.

I've renamed this for Art Vannes, but will change it if the base stamp proves to be a problem.

Today I have found exactly the same vase online that does indeed have the correct Art Vannes etched base mark. Thanks to all.

I indeed had this same vase on the board not so long ago and Art Vannes was also decided. Just to clarify John that yes I come across lots of unmarked AV here so it is not unusual. What threw me on this particular vase was that AV has normally a flat polished base.
