hi all !
found these on ebay - could they be made by James Powell ?

Hi,
Very beautiful glasses but not Powell ( Whitefriars ) in my opinion............ The colour and the mention of a 'Sharp pontil' do not point to them being from this source.
I am sure John or Nigel may have similar feelings........
Regards,
Patrick, :)

Possibly Salviati blanks engraved elswhere as often happened,i believe i may have read this somewhere over the years .
i have what i am sure is a Salviati glass enamelled by Moser . Powell used similar desings in his Venetian inspired glasses .

Hi,
The vase that you reference in the first link was perfectly correct, in fact I bought it ;) However, it was something like 30 cms high (from memory). Sorry, but you cannot just tranfer the pattern from a vase to a drinking glass and then assume that the same company made a version in that pattern - it just doesn't work that way :o
The other link that you give shows a good Powell amethyst bowl accompanied by two continental drinking glasses. The rule here is, just like eBay, auctions are not necessarily accurate with their attributions!

did Powell any glass with that kind of engraving or not ? i just had a look at quite a few salviati glasses - but these from ebay don´t look like italian - they don´t have that certain italian touch ... !?!?!?
the ebay seller describes them as brown green glass .. and that is my problem ..
