Hi everyone,
I recently purchased these vases.
Both are approximately 12 inches tall and very heavy.
Both are unsigned.
I would be grateful for any feedback/guidance.
My original view was that they are 60s/70s and European (given that I live in the UK).
Perhaps they are more recent.....
Thanks

Hello and welcome to the GMB,the first one I'm not sure but pretty certain the other is Chinese, got one very similar, also very heavy, ;D

Hi Keith
Thanks
They are very similar. Mine has an amber hue.
I assume, therefore, that they were made recently.
Disappointing, but it's good to get to know its origin.
Thanks again

I would also cite China or perhaps Romania or somewhere similar for the first piece. I think the giveaway is the little square base and the size. I think if it's big and heavy, think twice about buying or do the research first if you want something other than a modern decorative piece. If you love it, that's fine.

There's lots of these vases in Kent. The chap I asked in a shop in Hastings, who had LOADS of them, said they came from China. I know it's not a popular thing to say, but I think they're great lumps of glass for the money...it's just a shame they turn up masquerading as Italian glass - that really hacks off a lot of people.

Thanks Lustrousstone and Max (sorry, I haven't worked out how to send individual replies)
As embarrassed as I am about my ineptness and impulsive purchasing decision-making, there's lots of learning in all of this for me.
I think I need to select specific styles/manufacturers of the mid-century period that really interests me.
However, the sheer volume of the above is rather daunting at present.
Max, do you recall the prices the guy in Hastings was quoting?
Thanks again

You're welcome. We'd rather you didn't send separate replies: it makes threads long and tedious for other readers.

Don't be embarrassed,I've been collecting for some time(ages) and make loads of mistakes, the vase like yours I got only last year, seen lots since and probably paid more than I should have :pb: we're all still learning, that's what's so good about this forum.
