Height 7" 17.7cm, weight 1lb 4½oz 582g.

Bristol-type blue or blue and clear with creamy yellow spatter on the inside, sandblasted? on the outside with a brick-coloured coating taking away the roughness.   An exact inch size.

Any ideas?

Thanks for your interest,

Could it be some sort of scavo finish rather than sandblasted?

Cathy — Thanks for your reply.

I had to look up scavo glass on the Internet as it's a new term for me.   Yes, it does look quite likely that it's a scavo finish, both in texture and colour.

Is it exclusive to Murano?

Anyone with further ideas, on both date and attribution?

Frank, yes, I thought so too and have been searching, but can't find the relevent thread.

Bernard, scavo-type finishes have been used by other factories, most notibly recently by Lafiore in Spain. This piece isn't in their current collection, though, but could they have made it earlier? I didn't want to say because Ivo and jp know so much more on the subject - perhaps they can contradict me now! :)

My gut feeling says not Spanish the interior looks a little like chalcedony ( type ) finish so more Italian .

I don't know who did the vase, but the finish does not look scavo to me. Scavo is more erose. The finish on this vase looks smooth like it has been sandblasted or satinized in some fashion. The interior does not strike me as chalcedony, but I'm open to argument here. One thought I had on chalcedony is it is a difficult technique, so would be a shame to cover it on the outside (unless the technique turned out poorly, which I've read often happened).

Thanks, everyone for your opinions.   I think this topic has come to a natural end without a definite conclusion, so I am going to price it just to recover what I paid for it (which wasn't much), and hope it sells quite quickly.   It's not really my type of glass, but I found it interesting.

Couldn't find them but I have two of these somewhere - same shape, same outside finish but mono inside. If I'm not mistaken one of them had a German sticker on it of quite recent vintage. I was under the impression they are Chinese decoration pieces...
