Title: Is this vase Skrdlovice, by Frantisek Vizner?
Post by: astrid on November 12, 2010, 02:19:03 PM
It looks very similar in style to some I've seen described as by Frantisek Vizner, for Skrdlovice, but I'd like confirmation and perhaps an indication of age? It wouldn't surprise me if it was fairly recent, it doesn't have a lot of wear on the base.

18 cm by 7 cm by 7 cm.

I'm quite sure someone here can help me out,

Astrid

Hi Astrid...

I also think it looks like a Vizner piece, very much like the blue one in this link:  http://picasaweb.google.com/Jindra8526/FrantisekViznerSklo19592010ExhibitionBruntal42010?authkey=Gv1sRgCOy82omz-ND10AE#5458555068075041346

Jindrich or Robert will surely help.   :)

Hi Astrid,
its Frantisek Visner, designed 1968, its on the Beranek website,
http://www.beranekglass.com/default.aspx?lang=EN
sometimes a bit difficult to find your way around.
Not sure for how many years it may have been in production though?
Cheers
Andy

100% Mr Vizner, as others have said. My guess would be Skrdlovice production, but this is an exact subject, hopefully GMB member Jindra can elaborate further.... Jindra is organising an exhibition of glass by by Mr Vizner in Novy Bor (Czech Republic) at the end of this month.

A very nice piece of "hutni sklo,"

Ah, thanks everyone. I found confirmation on the Beranek site that this particular pattern is still in production, and indeed designed by Frantisek Vizner in 1968. The green in my piece doesn't look as dark as the photographs on their website, but for the rest it's exactly the same. If it was designed in 1968 and still in production, it could hail from any year between then and now.

And I hasten to add that indeed, it's a very pretty piece. The internal bubble structure  has a beautiful way of capturing light that comes through it. I'll have to use it soon in one of my upcoming monthly rotating window-sill exhibitions. I'll probably have enough hotworked Czech glass by now to use that as a theme.

Purchase my Vizner Skrdlovice glass database and you will never be in doubts :-)

This is the one from the most popular Skrdlovice vase Vizner ever designed. We call it "whirlpool vase". It has been designed in 1968 as circular, later also in rectangular form. The aim of Vizner was to hide the not really perfect glass material produced at that time in Skrdlovice. Vizner has considered, well in glass are some bubbles, so let we use it, we will introduce much more of bubles there and it will hide poor quality of material.

Your vase was made much later, seems to me that it comes from Beranek s.r.o. - the owner of Skrdlovice glasswork from 1992 to 2008.
But it is still perfect Vizner's design, isn't it.
