Title: Tall red bubble base vase
Post by: heartofsklo on November 13, 2010, 09:35:50 PM
Measures 26cm and the base has a smooth indent and the entry mark for the bubble.

???? Not sure but I had some trapped bubble things and I was told they were Krosno.  So I am only assuming that yours *might* be that too.  But I do not know, as this is ONLY a guess based on what my items were

   so still ???????

Krosno is most likely, though other makers have done the open bubble base. It's not Iittala's 'Tapio' pattern - was it even available in a vase?

Unless this is one http://cgi.ebay.com/Finland-Art-Glass-Vase-Tapio-Wirkala-Iittala-Bubblebase-/220686590184?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3361f220e8 (http://cgi.ebay.com/Finland-Art-Glass-Vase-Tapio-Wirkala-Iittala-Bubblebase-/220686590184?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3361f220e8)

Although, mine is 10 inches tall and 3 inches across the base.

That ebay attribution is wrong.

What I'd forgotten was that Anne initiated a great thread studying these.
http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,2447.msg18069.html#msg18069

There lots of possible manufacturers cited, although nothing clear: Aseda, Rihiimaki, Hadeland, Krosno and unidentified Chinese are all cited as possible manufacturers. I'll keep hunting on the topic to see whether there was any clarification.

Here's a genuine Iittala vase - note the straight sides and shape of the bubble.

Of your vase, I think the only think you can probably say at this stage is that it's not Iittala. :)

:hi: Just to clarify, Marks & Spencer markets the vases; they would have been made by another company. There are examples of the M&S vase on Anne's thread listed above.

ASDA also stock a range of bubble-based vases in various shapes and in several colours. I think they are made in China or Poland.
Examples here:

I don't think it's Adeda either, as they have a straight edges. Has anyone seen the Riihimaen Lasi one?
