Title: Glass *Christmas* Ornaments
Post by: antiquerose123 on November 14, 2010, 01:11:48 AM
Hi, I imagine everyone has one or two Glass Xmas ornaments.  So just thought I would start this post -- so everyone can add some of what they have (and the history/age) if you know it.  Nice to have a Big old Selection (samples) here -- Why not?  If for nothing else -- Nostalgic

These are just *Acorns* ones.  I remember them from when I was a Kid, so they must be at least 45 years old.  One has like a sugar coating on it.

When I put my tree up, I still hang these on my tree :'( + IN MEMORY +  :'( of my parents

  Hi Rose,
I remember the 'Acorn' look ornaments well! My mum had Glass bird ornaments (among many others!) that were clipped to the tree branches, and as each of us children,I'm one of 8, left home to get married she gave us one to start our own Yule Tree ornaments. I got mine over thirty years ago and when my daughter got married 10 years ago I passed it on to her. When she gets it out next month to decorate her Yule tree I'll take a pic to post here.

                          Warmest Wishes,

                              John

I love nostalgia......we still have the original Pifco tree lights we bought when we got married 43 years ago.....with almost all of the lights original......they don't make them like that now.
And although it isn't glass, I have an angel standing on a crescent moon with glitter that has long since tarnished, but she is playing an accordion, and my parents bought it for the tree when I was a little girl learning to play the piano accordion.....in Africa in 1950!......now you all know I am old!!

No tree decorations (well, I have them somewhere in the attic, but I haven't put up a tree in years...), but I just bought this little Walther solifleur or candlestick that was clearly intended for Christmas purposes:

I haven't got any old Christmas decoration, but started last year to buy just one especially pretty every year for our grandson  here  (http://www.gerda-huesch.de/)
This small shop is just 'around the corner' near to my home and worth a visit all year 'round (yes, they are open!) What you see on her page is by far not all she has to offer - I bought an elephant last year and a tiger head for this year - simply gorgeous.
Some are of Polish and East German manufacture, most are American designs produced in China.
