Title: Berezhanskyi sklozavod - Ukraine
Post by: Frank on November 14, 2010, 11:48:21 PM
Jindrich posted a link in another thread

http://www.glass4life.com/

Highly intrigued by some of their processes and wonder if something got lost in translation?

Oxygen cutting in particular?  I presume Oxygen laser but thought this had very limited application and not as widespread as water cutting. Also laser cutting of glass is usually using CO2 not Oxygen.

Tempera painting on glass is something usually only done for temporary decoration so puzzled to find it mentioned in a production environment.

I have checked the Russian text and it is correctly translated: "oxigen machine cutting"

Unfortunately I do not speak Ukraian language, but possibly the translation error could come in translation from Ukraian to Russian and then to English.
In Czech Oxigen (O) is "kyslik" and CO2 is "kyslicnik" so to make a mistake when you are not expert in technology is quite easy.
But it is only my explanation, it does not mean that it is correct.

I have asked my colegue - he said that it is realy oxigen flame cut of egdes of glasses, not cut in sense of engraving.
Flame heating and subesquent sudden colding makes a crack of edge.

Thanks Jindrich, solves cutting.

Now, what do they mean by Tempera painting. Tempera paints are transparent so great for making Christmas or party effects on glass, easily washed off afterwards. No way it can be fused to glass.

Hi Frank,
I am not expert either in glass manufacturing nor Ukraina glass, and also, even I can speak and understand Russian I am not familiar with special technical glass manufactiring terminology. Please ask the factory directly, I suppose that somebody there will be able comminicate in English, possibly much better the me.
