Title: confirmation for possible Magnor beaked vase
Post by: Paul S. on December 14, 2010, 08:42:44 PM
although the beaked mouth is common to perhaps a number of factories in Europe - it is the array of controlled bubbles, plus the colour, that suggest Magnor as a possibility.
I have looked thru some of my books but haven't seen this particular pattern, so maybe I'm wrong, and guess could be one of the other Scandi producers (Aseda perhaps).     Height is about 10.5"/270mm, and with some reasonable wear on the base.       Does anyone recognize the vase please, and thanks for looking. :)

Paul

I could be wrong, and I probably am  ;D,  but the shape of this and the way the inside is blown, reminds me very much of mine - mine has no controlled bubbles though.

Paul:

How heavy is the piece? The Murano ones in this style tend to be very heavy, whereas the Scandinavian ones are  somewhat lighter. I don't think it's Czech.

thanks to both of you :) - I had convinced myself that with the controlled bubbles, colour and flat base that this really couldn't be anything other than Scandi - although not necessarily Magnor.    Thanks m for the Magnor contact details and I will try that direction unless I find an exact id very soon.    I think there is a fairly noticeable difference regarding the wing shape/outline when compared with the gold/amber Murano example in the link.
David - this vase weighs something like 2.3 lbs. or a tad over one kilo  -  does that convince you it is more likely to be Scandi?       Paul S.

Yep, I'd lean that way. However, ever since I saw this piece I've been thinking I've seen it somewhere else, not Scandi and not Murano, but I can't quite remember where. When I get a chance I'll look through some likely sources. As I may be misremembering, it happens with increasing frequency, I'd stick with Scandi for now.
