This is another recent purchase that I made because I knew nothing about it and wanted to do some research. It stands 4 1/2 inches tall on a pedestal base and is 4 1/2 inches across. The underside of the base is decorated with a circle of stars which don't show up very well in photos. My research suggests to me that it is possibly early 20th century, English possibly Sowerby or Davidson. I would be very grateful for the thoughts of any members. Thanks John

I don't think it's Sowerby or Davidson on the basis of the design and the colour. I haven't seen the design before, though the shape is very common. I really don't know where I would look, but the colour might suggest late 19th century

Thanks for your help

Am I still right to be concentrating on English maker?

Sorry Christine, last post was a general one to all members, not specifically at you as I had noted your kind comments. Thanks John

??????????????? Maybe along the lines of Indiana Glass, but that is a ???????????? Just reminds me of that TYPE ???
See why Here: http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,34981.0.html  but not sure if yours is, just a mere suggestion

Good thought, Rose. I'm thinking I've seen an Indiana punch bowl set in this colour glass. Definitely an avenue to pursue. It's not a colour that would me think of British pressed glass.

Thanks for all your suggestions , I have now trawled through countless catalogues etc for English, German and Indiana glass and got nowhere. The nearest colour I found was Indiana's Teal Blue, but could not trace pattern.
This was a new field for me and I am starting to think that there are just so many options and variables that this may be my last piece too!!!!!!!!!

???
Maybe this is called a Candy Dish (aka footed Compote) rather than a Sugar bowl -- since it is 4.5 inches tall ??? It just looks more like a Candy Dish, IMHO. It is iridescent in color ? Carnival Glass (poss) ??
Could you post a pic of the bottom where it has the circle of stars? This is on the underside of the Bottom?? Try taking a pic in different light sources, and maybe try with/without flash.
;)

Hi Rose, I have attached a better photo of the underside of the base. I had ruled out Carnival glass as this is not iridescent but a very clear blue. John

Hi thanks... ;)
Are these on the underside of the glass, OR on the top side of the bottom rim. You can clearly rub your finger along the very underneath of the bottom and feel these???
I take it you are over-the-pond from Me here, as for what glass company might have made this....
Take a peek HERE, AND SCROLL DOWN (http://www.suziemax.com/Depression-Glass.html)to see IF you can see any similar Glass patterns, as I am not sure what the pattern of yours is called ??
Looks like a few patterns there......might help ???

These stars are underneath the base

Thanks Rose, I think perhaps you are right about this being a Candy Bowl or Bon Bon Dish. I will carry on scrolling through page after page, but who knows something may suddenly pop up.

...or Compote, or footed compote, or small footed compote.....to add some more *tags* when you google. I will keep trying to see what I can find too, but not too smart here :spls: :pb:
