Title: Jaroslav Svoboda vase for Skrdlovice, unusual colour?
Post by: rocco on January 16, 2011, 07:02:43 PM
My Srkdlovice collection is getting bigger :)

Bought this vase yesterday, which I hope to have identified correctly as Jaroslav Svoboda for Skrdlovice, PN 7302 (?). Height 18cm, diam 7cm.
Thanks to Jindrich's site I found it in the Skrdlovice catalogue of 1974, but only in dark blue colour (all other examples I have seen on the web were blue as well).

It has the remains of a paper label, which - before I cleaned the vase - was recognizable as an old Skrdlovice label. (Now there is not much left of it, I nevertheless attach a pic)
I could compare it quite nicely because I also found a huge Skrdlovice bowl by Jan Beranek ("Andromeda" is the name, I think) with a perfect label.

Thanks,
Michael

Likely you are on the right track again Rocco, certainly an unusual colourway for this vase but entirely normal for the factory generally, a nice unusual piece... they probably turned out a small batch in another colour out of interest. I do not think that the new Svoboda factory is especially known for producing this particular vase, or that the colour would be theirs. I would like to know more about the andromeda bowl. I have one in blue-green-clear.. other GMB members have it too. I would guess it would have a gold-yellow label rather than a red one? This is only a guess, could you clarify this for me please, thanks,

nice buys!

Robert, thank you so much again for your contributions!
There were clearly remains of a Skrdlovice label and not of a Beranek or Svoboda label on the vase (should have made a pic before cleaning...).
I was just a little surprised to find this pattern in a different colour than blue.

I will open another thread for the Andromeda bowl (so mods don't have to split this one if there starts a discussion about it).

Hi Michael,
do not consider the colour when attributing Skrdlovice pieces. It is Jaroslav Svoboda for Skrdlovice piece 7302/18.

Great, thanks Jindrich!
I seem to have a talent for finding odd shape/colour versions of wellknown Skrdlovice designs :)

Michael, if you will continoue in purchasing Skrdlovice glass so efficiently we have only two options:
To kill you or to invite you to our Skrdlovice fun club :-)
I will ask my friend bOBA what option he will prefer....

Jindrich, I hope you decide for the fan club option ;D
As there is so much beautiful Czech glass to be purchased I'd rather live on...

Collecting is so much more fun with you and bOBA guiding me!

Two more Skrdlovice items in my collection:

- tall (28,5cm) Jan Beranek vase PN 5988 in a very nice colourway

- "Galaxy" vase PN 6532/21 (I think) by Miloslava Svobodova.
My friends think it is ugly -- I think it is wonderful :)
