Title: ? Early 19thC English Blue Glass Bowl w/ Cut Designs ?
Post by: Anne on January 17, 2011, 11:16:56 PM
Does anyone recognise this blue bowl listed on eBay please?

It's a gorgeous colour of blue, and described as "Early 19thC English Blue Glass Bowl w/ Cut Designs" - any info about possible maker, pattern, date etc would be welcome. Thanks!

HI ,
I cant comment on this particular piece but from past experience with this sellers listings(of items I do know about). I can say that his attributions are at best hopefull(if not completely wrong) and his prices outrageous.

Cheers ,
               Peter.

This is a really intriguing piece.  I saw this post weeks ago and it has stuck in my mind since.  Presumably if it's English and as old as they say, it's lead glass (judging by the deep cuts)...but did they make lead glass this color blue then?  Anyway, today I happened on a photo of a piece with a very similar style of cutting, dated to about 1780:
