Title: Percival Vickers c1860 lacy plate
Post by: neilh on January 25, 2011, 07:39:29 PM
Showing off my latest Manchester pressed glass find, plate number 27 from the Percival & Vickers 1881 pressed glass catalogue, which would date the design to about 1860 or slightly earlier. As usual, picked up off eBay for the price of a sandwich!

From what I've read, lacy plates tended to go out of fashion by 1850 but some were still made up to 1870. This design, still included in the catalogue in 1902, shows they continued to be made for some time after the accepted date. This design was made in sizes from 3.5 inches up to 9 inches, and this example is of the largest size. Makes a passable dinner plate actually. The same lacy design was also used on a matching shallow bowl.

There are two other lacy designs in the 1881 catalogue though the copy I have is rather indistinct and I doubt I will be able to identify examples.
