found this in my local charity shop it's 7in tall.... :huh:i think its pressed glass :-\ seems old though.thanks
-
My immediate thought was that it was a Anchor Hocking (Fire King) "Manhattan" ball pitcher. However I'm confused about the handle - sometimes it seems to be ribbed and other times plain, as you can see in the following examples.

So either two patterns were made, or there were look alikes. Perhaps you could try to contact the owners of this site, who will be able to tell you more about the pattern.

It's a fairly old site so the emails may not work, but hopefully they will.

;)thanks for your reply ive had a look at the other handles and they look the same to me.... but i'm not a trained eye my one's handle is smooth flatish and has a seam... to tell the truth it's perfectly made imperfectly...... ive been pinging it sounds ok but ive got nothing to compare with, the ridges are well defined but not so sharp that you would cut yourself on them, so looking at these sites photos and info im not too sure  and i cannot contact them as they want money to ask a question and everythings in $$$$$$ its a good strong chunky piece of depression glass.need to get the proper measurements..... thanks again cathy very helpful

Ask here http://chataboutdg.com/ They are nice people and it's a forum just like this one. I can't see this ball pitcher/jug in their gallery, but someone may know.

:hiclp:just been confirmed by the american site that it is a Anchor and hocking Manhatten pitcher.. wot now shall i sell it.. ???
-
Note that it is NOT Anchor Hocking; it is Hocking (before it added the Anchor bit in 1937) and it won't be Fire King, as that was the heat-resistant line.

Noted!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the clarification, Christine. I've looked at the chataboutdg thread and must admit to still being a bit confused. How can you tell this is Hocking and not the Anchor Hocking (http://www.ndga.net/articles/trietschmanhattan.php) version? Is it the plain handle? Or is that article incorrect about the dates (AH came into existence in 1937 and the claim is that the pattern was made from '38-'43).
I believe there are Fire King versions around, but they will be marked? The pattern in Jadeite seems to be highly prized by FK collectors (apparently there are only two known).

I'm wrong. I assumed because the chatabout pic was labelled Hocking, it was not Anchor Hocking. Looks like I've assumed far too much...sorry. Ignore what I said Jeannie.

thats ok.... i dont want to keep it..its not my kinda thing, can i sell it on here??? when we know for sure what it is.Gosh there's so much to learn.have a great weekend :sun:
-
Thanks, Christine. I wasn't sure at all what was going on.
Jeanniegal, it's probably best try to sell via eBay and then you can add new post to our Marketplace forum and include a link to the eBay ad. We don't allow advertising in the discussion section.

We do know what it is. It's an Anchor Hocking Manhattan tilted/ball pitcher, made between 1938 and 1941 or 1943 (depending on which book you read). There are two sizes 24 fl oz and 80 fl oz. (I was just confused about when it was made.)
Fire King was an Anchor Hocking brand name introduced in 1940, but not, as I thought, exclusively for heat-resistant ranges http://www.collectorsweekly.com/glassware/anchor-hocking
I apologise again for any confusion I have created

Hi Jeannigal, I was looking through glass images, and came accross this link
http://www.firstclassglass.com/manhattancrystal.html
So thought I would add it to either add to the confusion, or lay this to rest!!!!
Incidentally this is an awesome site, worth bookmarking if you haven't already found it yourself.
It also lays down for certain that the spelling for Jeannette Glass is nn & tt......a good site. :rah:
Enjoy!! :sun:
