Title: Unknown large Scandinavian vase
Post by: WhatHo! on February 07, 2011, 04:28:33 PM
Hi, if someone could help me ID this vase I would be grateful. Its 12" tall and 3 way optic. Its has a large polished pontil and its signed with what I think is a monogram then Y35/310. Thanks Wolfie

Could be BV which could be Boda Vallien - you see I'm getting really circumspicious here.

The vase looks quite Elis Bergh-ish - might the signature be B435...?

I'd expect if it were either Vallien or Bergh, there would be a company name as well.  As a last thought, Y was the code Strombergshyttan used for water jug and glass. Not likely, though, for this piece.

Not in the case of BH and BV codes where B stands for Boda

I'll vote for Bergh then.

Elis Bergh designs for Kosta are often marked with just a B and a 3 or 4 digit number. For example: http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,27956.0.html

Note, also, the similarities in how the '4' is signed.

Have to say, though, I've not seen any other Bergh pieces with a six-digit code - might the latter three numbers refer to height?

Hi, thanks for everybody's input, most appreciated.
I was going through my Lesley Pina books and I noticed a close similarity to the Boda signatures, which seems to be a letter, 3 numbers, forward slash then 3 numbers (taken from Erik Hogland examples) with no company name. I also noticed that Monica Backstrom was working at Boda from 1965 could this be one of her pieces? or any of the others from Boda? Tia Wolfie
