Title: Caterpillar on floating leaf paperweight - Any ideas?
Post by: Glassheart on February 10, 2011, 06:54:31 PM
Hi all,
Got this weight off ebay and was wondering if anyone knows the origins or maker?  It's quite large-ish weight meauring 3.5" in diameter and 3" tall.  It has a flat clear base and a speckled almost jasper ground looking bed.  Quite pretty - any ideas?

Wow - This seems to have our experts stumped  :ho: :ho: :ho:

Not even any finger in the air guesses?  If it helps this was bought from ebay France - I doubt it could be French

Murano or Chinese I felt - anyone with an opinion?

A pretty piece of modern Chi.

Ah yes chinese - This I thought initially with the cumbersome finished jasper groundish bed - but this paperweight does have finer un-chinese like lampwork - in particular the caterpillars feet and Leaf's detailed veins.  Also base is clear and not frosted as with a few Chinese weights I own.  But thats a possibility... I have trawled internet for a comparitive weight and have failed.  If anyone has a link to a similar weight I would be grateful to check it out.  Another thought was Belgian...due to the spattered/jasper ground bed I have seen before on some Belgian weights...

One of their better efforts...Keep an eye on ebay & you're sure to see some crappier examples.
