Any idea if it is possible to get a date on this Strathearn vase ? I know it is pattern V005 , 8 inches tall, 5 inches diameter at rim. Plus leaping salmon seal/prunt to base. I know it dates from 1964 or after but how long after ...thanks for having a look ! Ta, Mike.

Hi,

I always had it in my mind that Strathearn's coloured glass finished production in about 1971, however something made me do a bit of checking.

In fact it is more probable that there was a gradual decline in their coloured glass during the 1970's before the company was re-named Stuart Strathearn, in 1980 - and production of Strathearn Glass ceased. This is likely because of the introduced of engraved (and sandblasted?) glass in 1973.

Therefore you have Strathearn Glass from 1965-1980; coloured glass from 1965-73; the introduction of engraved glass alongside coloured glass 1973-80.

See Frank's Ysart Glass website for general story of Strathearn Glass:

Thanks Nigel,

Very interesting , thanks for checking and the link. I thought it might have been possible to narrow the date down a bit , but it's useful to know... it's only 15 years...which isn't much really ! Cheers, Mike.
