I have this bottle, the like of which I have never seen before (nor has Margaret and she is ex-president of a winemakers guild).
It is a finely blown bottle with a long neck and what looks like a bunch of grapes INSIDE the bottle but open to the air via a side vent.
Does it have a function or is it just a glass blower showing off his skills? It is along the same lines as a glass frigger ship inside a bottle.
Approx 30cm tall.

Although I have not seen one like this there are bottles with an internal space for ice, would this be a fancy version? or am I piles,I mean miles away? :wsh:

How would you get the ice in?
However, it has been speculated that a coloured liquid could be put in the 'grapes'.

It's a liqueur bottle. You see loads of them in airport off-license placeys, all sorts of different bits inside, sometimes coloured too.

Ah well. The last time I was in an airport was 1992. :hi: But I would like to see another example. It is very finely (fragile) blown to withstand commercial usage, especially with the long thin neck.

The only one I've been in where I've seen loads of these is London City - and yes, it was a few years ago. I'm not often in airports either. But they are commercial "gifty" sorts of things - when they still have their contents.

Sorry have i missed something, could you not put crushed ice or iced water into the grapes from the side to cool the contents . yes i have had a couple , nice init . :nk:

Roy, the inside is similar to my wee grape-bunch liqueur bottle here:

Thanks Anne. I have seen the grape-shaped bottles before, but they are not, IMO, really similar to my bottle. Perhaps I really do have a rare, even one-off bottle?

A persistent friend found this:

so we think the mystery is resolved.
Thank you

Made in Italy, meant for any drink but mostly for Grappa - and often sold with Grappa filling. The inner should not be filled. You can, but it is a messy hassle. The material is usually Borosilicate glass, so in spite of light weight quite sturdy.

Thanks Ivo.
What did you make of the $66 price tag on the one shown in my link? Admittedly more stylish than mine, but ...
... Margaret and I have used it successfully as a conversation piece and now want to get rid ...

I would have guessed 15 to 20 was more realistic - I think half a liter of top grappa in one of these bottles will set you back 27 Euros. They also turn up in charity shops quite often. Well, here at least.
