Title: Another deacons thread, Milefiori weight with P cane pp151 ?
Post by: jonchellycain on February 16, 2011, 12:33:28 PM
Hi all
I bought this weight quite some time ago now and its been in my cabinet.
On the base it has a P cane and a sticker with (hand written pp151). The weight also has deacons thistle in the centre.
Im finding it quite difficult to find one the same or even similar, can anybody date this or give me any info, is the PP number right as i cant seem to find that either.
I think Deacons left Perthshire in 1978 so it pre dates then.
any info much apreciated
michelle

Hi Michelle

It is a Perthshire PP156, made 1994-1997.  I don't think John Deacons had a patent on the thistle motif!

Hi Michelle.

The PP156 was not a limited edition - they made as many as they could sell.

There is no price guide, I'm afraid -they tend to go out of date quickly, anyway.  As you probably know, many of the 'run of the mill' paperweights have dropped in price over the past few years, but the choice pieces (good antiques especially) continue to climb. I doubt that any modern pieces go up much in value until the factory /maker closes, and new pieces are no longer coming onto the market. Thus Perthshire weights seem to have held their own over the last year or two.  That said, I have seen some pretty heroic asking prices recently - which are very different from sale prices, of course!

Many thanks, you do find as soon as people put a name to something they seem to think it makes it worth a fortune, unfortunitly not in most cases. I know a lot of buy it nows are incredibly high which is why i never pay any attention to them and generally book prices can be at least knocked in half too. As you say the market moves so quickly on all these things and a value one day can be different the next. Its coming with me next sunday so wanted to look at a fair price but giving a good bargain if i can.
will check out the similar sold ones and work something out
cheers
