Post by: antiquerose123 on February 18, 2011, 08:37:47 PM
Hi, again...

It has a LABEL on it, but I would have never gotten it myself without the label.......  :spls: mind you, I do not get most things right anyways :spls: .   :thud:

So I am seeing IF you can figure it out by the Pictures of this one.  It is about 5 inches tall, and 3.5 inches wide.  All I can tell you it is Green.  See if you know...

Good Luck at your Guesses.....lol  :24:  >:D >:D

Nope, not Murano or Scottish Selkirk Glass either.

See you guys are like ME, as I would have been stumped (http://www.gifanimations.com/GA/Image/Animations/Cartoons/Homer_simpson.gif) too had it not had a label.  DOH

Given what it is not, I suspect it is a Loon.  So let's have a punt at Robert Held.

You are getting very Warm......lol.....which one ??

Given what it is not, I suspect it is a Loon.  So let's have a punt at Robert Held.

Ross

Nope.....I think it looks like a Penguin to me, IMHO

Is it Gibraltar Crystal????
Vickie

Nope -- it is not....

Altaglass  ;)
That's Canadian, isn't it Anik?

The Winner is *Anik* for hitting it right on the head -- and also to *RosiePosie* for also saying Canadian too earlier -- so you BOTH Win

You have Won an all expense Trip to Italy......
:24: :24: :24: :24: :24: :24: :24:

I am just kidding of course.. :24: ;D

Here is the label on the bottom........Now what gets me is that the label does say AltaGlass, but then in small print I see something about England on the label.  So what goes there?  Is that the maker of the label?  Or how is it Canadian Glass made in Alberta, Canada if it has something about England on the Label?

I have never looked that close to the label before -- so never noticed this before.  So what is up with that ???

I think this is a Penguin when I look at it -- so I thought people would see that -- and lead them in a direction of the Maker ....LOL

Good Work all !!!!  :hiclp: :hiclp:  I would have never gotten it either without the label  :spls:

I'm guessing that the Walsall, England might refer to a distributor.

:hiclp:  Some Good reading there from GMB archives.   :hiclp:  I see I am not the only one wondering about this.

I know I had found on line some sites about AltaGlass (one word) and then also Alta Glass (two words) last year.  See this post of mine here:  http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,32444.0.html (http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,32444.0.html)

Wonder IF any connection there at all ????

Still seems strange that AltaGlass (in Alberta, Canada) would have the maker of the label (England) on the label.  I am sure that there is a place in Canada that can do label.  So this just seems a little strange.  I mean on the label you are saying that it is Canadian Glass made in Alberta...then in Fine print (the label) is says England.

Strange... ???(http://www.gifanimations.com/GA/Image/Animations/Lines/Insect.gif)

Sorry Rose it is a loon.  Attached are 4 photos , two penguins & two of a loon and or loon poster.  Not that the penguin can't raise its wings above horizontal and they are distincst "batons" whereas the loon does raise it high and the feathers drape down in a curtain like fashion as in you lovely little weight.

Ross

PS.  I thought Robert Held is Candoan too - hence my attempt.

That should say Robert Held is Canadian too!!!!!

Ross

I see what you mean Ross -- but to me the Loon (as the Loonie is on our everyday money -  SEE HERE  (http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Q7Osyb7fv6k/TKyFwXke-eI/AAAAAAAAAG8/Ae-DvedcOz4/s1600/2008-Lucky-Loonie-Canadian-Dollar-Coin1.jpg) ) has a much longer bleak, and this little glass guy does not.  I guess he could be either.  He looks more like a penguin to me -- but Hey -- its a Bird of some sort....LOL

So everyday when I pull a dollar out of my wallet -- I face the loonie on our $1.00 coins here.....so the bleak of a loonie (as least here in Canada) are long.

I will just call it a Bird... :24:

....and Ross too was in the Right Country too with his guess of Robert held.

So Anik, and rosieposie will have to take you along on their  (imaginary)  trip to Italy that they won....  :24:

Wallasy is in Cheshire, where my Father was born Rose.  I was born in Liverpool, just across the Mersey River.

Is it worth looking to see if there is/was a printing works there that made labels for other countries.

Also, I noticed that Worthpoint, the online auction house, has several Alta Glass pieces mentioned, and they interpret the label as meaning the glass ornaments were made in Wallasy, England for Altaglass!!!! :24: :24: :24: :24: :24: :24:

Carolyn

As noted above. There is nothing in the referenced message topic about this possibility.

And here is a picture of what Rose is talking about, the Canadian "Loonie"
