Title: Is this Vase Scandinavian or A N Other ???
Post by: artyroy on February 20, 2011, 02:51:47 PM
Hi You Good People of GMB
Once again I call upon all of you with superior knowledge for some help in identifying this piece of glass. I have here this vase which stands at 6" high , is encased in a clear with a green inner core , which is highlghted with a fizz of frosty air bubbles , it has a clear base which has a hole and a formed bubble interior , it looks like it could be an opening for a small burner ??? I have included a base shot ... I will thank you all now for any information regarding this item , I am looking to sell this piece so any info would be gratefully recieved ..Regards Roy (artyroy)

Hi John
Thanks for the rapid reply , the top is finished in a smooth ground finish which shows the clear and the green glass , I have attached a top photo now but it does not do the piece justice ,,, thank you Roy

Are they definitely air bubbles and not some sort of white matter?

Questions, questions.

possibly stupid question alert... but is it supposed to sit on the ground side and have the rounded side with the hole in upside?

I too think it is probably and oil lamp - that is the hemisphere ought to be on top.  There are clear glass versions of this marketed as "Krosno" from Poland that I have often seen here in Melbourne.  I think "Krosno" may be from the same stable as "Josefina/Jozefina" glass also marketed here.

Jozefina Glass and Krosno Glass are not the same. They just happen to be in the same place

Thanks for clarifying that Christine.  I suspect they have the same importer here in Melbourne.

Definitely the upside down oil lamp. It has a little glass or metal ring with a wick through it which rests on the small opening. Made by one of the Polish companies - I don't know which one.
