Post by: gortagammon on February 22, 2011, 10:56:15 PM
I wonder if anyone out there can help me with this beauty,

19" high overall 11" at the widest diamond moulded dark cranberry/ruby glass shade on the shade is ALCo English made and on the oil burner it says Shaws Patent Brunel

The photo is way too large.....Like my hat  :hat:

The only Shaws patent I can find on the net is for "cats eyes" in the middle of the road.

There was an 1898 patent GB189806224 filed by a Edward John Shaw for "Improvements in and relating to the Construction of Oil Lamps" so I wonder if that's the Shaw it referred to? Was yours made as an electric lamp or has it been converted from oil to electricity?

It was converted from oil to electric I was told the base was a pew warmer for church and it was converted into a lamp , there were more originally but they have gone around the family.
It seemed a lot of work to me as surely they wouldn`t have had glass shades originally so they would  have been made specially ???
