Title: Victorian Opalescent Glass Novelty Knife

I am gathering any information regarding this knife. It is 6.5" long, souvenir novelty, it is signed Tipton, IA - on the one side and painted (worn off) flowers - on the other side. Any info will be helpful

Information about this knife was found in the book Victorian Glass Novelties (Schiffer Book for Collectors) pg. 134. OPAL KNIVES, DECORATED AND SOUVENIR. No maker is listed.

I would like mention to you about Niemen (Neman) glass work info on your site. This is not a Polish company, used to be Russian, now is Belarusian.

Actually there are two Niemen's... yes, one is in Belarus, however, J. Stolle Niemen were a Polish company. This caught me out at first when I acquired a vase with a Cyrillic Nemen mark 'HEMAH' - thought it was Belarusian, but turned out to be J. Stolle Niemen for the Russian market...

Stolle Niemen/Neman

For today that's absolutely correct, however I've learnt from here that the region belonged to Poland from 1921 til 1939:

I see! Thanks Pamela, I didn't realise the border had changed. I was working from two sources, one an insulator site that insisted 'HEMAH' was Belarussian, then also SG's info about my vase being Polish. So it was one company, two countries...

 :hi: We always have the same problem with Bohemia ..... : Austria, Czech Republic, Checoslovaquia, Poland,..Germany for a short period  :wsh:

Niemen/Neman river - German name is Memel, German megalomania in Third Reich  :ooh:  :-X  :pb:

It is a little strange to me. Firs, info on the site is saying "Glassworks “Neman” – is the enterprise with age-long glass melting traditions. In 1883 on the bank of the river Neman Julius Stolle and Wilhelm Krayevsky organized glass production."
and after that, another information shown- Zenon Lensky leases the guta to the chief engineer of the Dyadkovo glass works Wilhelm Krayevsky and the head of the art shop of the works Julius Stolle in 1897.

But I understand what Pamela meant, because this part became Russia in 1939
