Title: Glass owls... Is one Langham and the other Wedgwood?
Post by: Anik R on February 28, 2011, 04:00:43 PM
Hello,

Can someone help me identify my two lovely glass owls?  Though they are very similar, they do have some differences...  The eyes and beaks are different in each, and the one on the left (the lighter one) seems to be more heavily cased in clear than the one on the right (the darker one).  Might one be Wedgwood while the other Langham?  Which is which?  Neither are signed.

Thank you.

P.S.  I got the darker one at the Cambridge glass fair from our Michelle...   ;D

Hi Anik.  My very limited experience of the Wedgwood owls is that they can vary quite a bit.  Here's two marked Wedgwood for comparison..

Dunno much about Langham glass to be honest, but there's a couple of owls on their website here: [link (http://www.langhamglass.co.uk/products/index.php?cat=20&pageno=2)]  [pic (http://www.langhamglass.co.uk/products/productImage.htm?../images/standard/Owl medium.jpg)]

Thank you Wayne and Keith...  You both have got lovely owls...  :)   Thank you for the photos!

At the fair, I showed Rosie(posie) my new dark owl, and she told me it was Wedgwood.  But then, when I got home and looked at my other owl (which I had assumed to be Wedgwood), I noticed quite a big difference in the eyes and the way the beak was shaped and placed, etc...  and decided that both cannot possibly be Wedgwood.  Perhaps I was wrong.

Thank you, again. :hi:

I'd say they were both Wedgwood, Anik - there can be a good bit of variation in this sort of colourway - (fish things turn up in it too - when I first got hold of one I thought it might be Mdina.)

no doubt at all Anik  -  absolutely guaranteed; both are Wedgwood, and very attractive if I may say so.   Variation is, of course, the beauty of hand made pieces. ;)   Must admit Keith I like your red one

Hello Anik :hi: Glad you are home safe! So lovely to meet you and Michelle and Paul.  :kissy: :kissy: :kissy:
Yes, they are both Wedgwood, so now you have a pair!!
Langham have ears and also, just to confuse the issue, they have now produced a new model, that is absolutely gorgeous in detail....just when I thought I had one of everything!!  :thud:

Thank you Sue, Paul and Rosie!  I'm very pleased to hear that both my owls are Wedgwood, despite their differences -- it's fascinating.

I appreciate everyone's help with un-confusing me. ;D
