Title: Don't know where to start
Post by: Cate1959 on March 05, 2011, 12:29:23 AM
I have been cleaning out some boxes that belonged to my husband's grandmother (she would be 97 yrs. old if she were still alive).  In these numerous boxes, I have found different types of glass that I can't identify.  I have no idea what is good and what is junk.  I found bowl that I am fairly certain in Carnival glass.  And there are some candle holders (I think) that might be Hocking glass.  There are quite a few 3 footed dishes and cut glass.  I do know that some of these pieces belonged to grandma's mother - which  would be my husband's great grandmother.  Any suggestions of where to begin?

Take pictures of each piece, in natural light, of the overall piece, of the base and a closeup (using your micro lens) of the design (if there is one). Then you want to make a separate topic here in glass of each piece of glass, using these guidelines for attaching the pictures.

Of course if there is a set of six, we don't need a picture of each one, just a mention that there are six  :)

And be patient. Each expert of each type of glass does not come in every day. But slowly and surely we will help you find answers.

And welcome to the GMB.  :rah:

Hi and welcome!
It would also be very useful to know where you are on the planet - so we know whether to start with European or Australian or American origins - glass does travel accross the globe, but your location is a good place to start.

I guess it would help to know where I am.  I live in Mississippi in the USA.   Thanks for the suggestion to post pictures.   I will try to get some clear ones to post.
