Title: Please help identify Italian glassmaker?
Post by: franzs on March 09, 2011, 05:26:13 PM
Hi,
I wonder if anybody can help med identify an Italian glassmaker from 1940-50?
The glass had a paper label but my 8 years old daughter “collected” those

High: 14.5 cm

There's some similar vases described as Fratelli Toso in the book "Italian Glass Century 20", on pages 93 + 94.  "Fratelli Toso fluted ribbed organic-form vase, in white opalescent with scalloped rim, cased over burgundy."  There's others with white cased over pink.  The scalloped rim looks different, but could be from the same range maybe.

The vase looks like the rose opalino ones made by Fratelli Toso and Archimede Seguso. The whiteness of the opaline glass looks more like F. Toso, but the rim looks more like A. Seguso. I'm not sure which one it is.

Looks different to A.Seguso to me, at least the pieces I have seen. I haven't seen one with ribs this deep. Maybe you are right Anita and it is Fratelli Toso.

See this one for comparison http://cgi.ebay.com/DOCUMENTED-SEGUSO-CASED-PINK-OPALINE-OPALINO-GLASS-VASE-/260723217452?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cb450942c

I wasn't sure which company it was. Wayne suggested maybe FT. I am inclined to agree, but not sure at all.

The only thing I can think is does FT have paper labels? Assuming the OP is referring to a white paper label and not the standard label.  I know AS does for stock labels.

Q to Franzs - what colour was the label?

Hi Franzs - Archimede Seguso had a red and gold label the circular one has scalloped edges.  FT had clear, silver and blue and silver see here it might trigger your memory.  http://glassgallery.yobunny.org.uk/thumbnails.php?album=102
