A friend had this today and he assures me it also has a Mtafa label which fell off at home. It is signed Mtafa (well I think so anyway) and is similar to a few other small textured pieces I have seen (some on the GMB I think).
As probably noted before the textured looks like the same as the early Mdina textured vases and bottles, the texture of the Mtafa piece is a dead ringer for the large bottle here: https://picasaweb.google.com/Johnmj100/EarlyMdinaGlass#5443333966448149218
Looks like at least part of a mould went with Paul Said to Mtafa.

Definitely a Mtarfa signature John.

Wow, that's really interesting, John! Particularly in light of the fact that Mdina are now making flattened weights in a similar texture to the original moulds used, but they do not match at all.

The texture would have to match 'exactly' to be from the Mdina mould, you would not be able to tell this from these photos? You need to have this piece side by side with a bottle to check for this.

I did and it does :)

And when I checked a new flattened Mdina one against the real thing, it didn't match. :)
