Title: Honey Bowl (1) - BRITISH MAKE
Post by: Chris Harrison on March 15, 2011, 04:00:36 PM
Came across these two pressed bowls with hexagons.  For honey, presumably.
Both are marked BRITISH MAKE, but in different typefaces and different sizes.

I remember the previous debate about Bagley and Jobling.  Is either of these bowls identifiable?  The only hexagon pattern I've seen is the Jobling 2610 honey tray

The photos are in two separate threads.

I have one of these too Chris, but it's defied ID so far I think. Same lettering - I thought it might be a footed open sugar: http://yobunny.org.uk/gallery1/displayimage.php?pos=-965

I don't think it's a honey bowl (nor is your other one). Honey bowls are either like jam pots (quite upright with a "holed" lid) or wider bowls with an attached saucer and a holed lid. The Jobling honey tray is just for putting the square honey pot on, of course. The yellowness of the glass makes me wonder if they are perhaps Sherdley or something similar.

...or square with a lid - like cigarette boxes?  Never quite understood the "honey box" thing... mine always stays in the jar!

This footed bowl is actually pretty clear.  The other one is rather yellow.  Sherdley did cross my mind, too.  Wonder whether Heidi ever came across BRITISH MAKE in her wanderings.
