Do all (non seconds) Caithness pwts have Caithness Scotland and its name etched in the centre and either the production or limited edition number marked on the rim or are there different forms of mark?

I have seen a whole variety of marks nimrod.
I have some with the probably most common etched mark - see picture1
others with a mix of etched and engraved - picture 2
and totally engraved picture 3
and a second mark picture 4 - the only one I have but I do believe these were also sometimes engraved.

The simple answer would be "no": apart from a large variety of marks (over more than 40 years of paperweight production) I have also seen unmarked weights - might occasionally have been on purpose for aesthetic reasons (not sure of that) or the weight just "escaped" the marking. Many unmarked weights, however, will be seconds which for some time have only been "marked" with a sticker "not selected" ... which may "fall off" unfortunately.

I agree with Wuff. The usual practice is to etch the large C][G illustrated in photo#4 from Jackie.
Those with just an etched Caithness / Name / Scotland I assume to be unlimited editions. If there is further engraved details most times it will be cause there is some limit eg. 32/250 might be engraved to mean #32 of a proposed run of 250 - whether or not that many get made in the long run. Or maybe a designer name eg. Terris
Occasionally they escape with no mark whatsoever - I have 2 versions of the weight below - an early Caithness. One has absolutely no base marking at all, the other has a DC which I assume to be the engravers initials. I seem to remember finding out there was an engraver with the initials DG working there in the early days - so maybe it means something else. I believe both are perfect.

Douglas Cowie was a Caithness engraver in the early 1980ies - I'm not sure, however, about the exact years.

Thank you for that info Wolf it is appreciated. As far as I know these weights were made as far back as the early 70s.

As I said: Douglas Cowie was there in the early 1980ies - I don't know when he began.
Eagle Dome was first issued in 1976, and (being unlimited) likely produced for several years - still in the 1980 price list (don't have price lists for the following years).

I have an unmarked early one that has a label on the base saying CG Handmade Scotland.

I agree that there are a few variations when it comes to Caithness marks on paperweights.
I have a lovely pedestal weight which is only marked Caithness - Scotland, even though it was part of the Midsummer studio collection for 1998 (it was reproduced in the Reflections magazine for December 1998 - issue 15).
