Title: Old Baluster Glass...English? Georgian?
Post by: Martyn K on March 22, 2011, 12:21:17 PM
Bought a pair of these yesterday and enjoyed some wine from them last night...

They're very nice to drink from, but given the number of drinking glasses we end up breaking after a bottle - or two - I thought I'd check we're safe to keep using them and they aren't worth a small fortune!

16cm (6 1/4") high, 6.8cm (2 3/4") foot diameter, 6.3cm (2 1/2") diameter at rim. Stretched tear bubble in waisted baluster stem, plain conical foot, snapped pontil scar. Honest wear to base and general signs of age/use.

I'm guessing from the shape they might have been ale glasses? Any thoughts from those experienced in older drinking glasses much appreciated.

Martyn.
