Title: Kingfisher Whitefriars Vase?
Post by: vanmann on March 22, 2011, 01:23:53 PM
I bought this vase today on impulse but now feel that I might have been mislead by the Kingfisher(?) colour and the polished out pontil mark on the base.Measures 9 1/2 inches tall. Any chance that this could be Whitefriars , or if not any other suggestions. Thanks John

It's not wfs.
I'm afraid I can't actually make out any details of the piece, though, to even hazard a guess at what it might be.
Are there different colours in the glass body?
It looks more as if the pontil mark has been polished off, rather than out - as if a lumpy bit has been taken off to make it stand flat.

Thanks Sue, as I suspected. I have attached a couple more photos. The base is definitley concave but perhaps ground out is  a better description than polished out. Body of vase is all one colour with many bubbles and tapers slightly for top 3 inches

wow, those images are a lot better! Well done.
Sadly, I'm still a bit clueless about what it might be - although I'm wondering a little bit about contemporary new goods from the British Heart Foundation shops. I don't think I've seen a teal blue one before though.

It  looks modern - the sort of thing found in TK Maxx eighteen months or so back. A lot are now turning up in antique fairs and centres all over.
