Title: unusual vase like squid's fluorescence inside???
Post by: pl79 on March 27, 2011, 02:06:09 PM

I bought this vase about 20 years age. I absolutely love it but have no idea who made it or where? It is 6in tall. It is heavy 820g, cased in blue. The inside is clear and gold stripes with the appearance of irridescence. It looks spectacular when lit from above or below.

The colours make me think Mdina but see what the Mdina experts say ;D

It does doesn't it, very Ming.

No experts around here Keith, just us nerds.... ;D

Speaking of which, I owned and then sold a signed ming pattern attenuated bottle from Mdina that had these colours and it too was cased with blue rather than clear glass: https://picasaweb.google.com/Johnmj100/LaterMdinaGlass#5430029959407060082

I still have this photo of it too.

I can see the similarity with the Medina Ming pieces. There are no markings on this in the terms of a signature. The blue colour reminds me of the Czecholslovakian Harrachov glassworks Evening Blue but the ones I've seen are cased in clear.

It is a stunning piece, one of my favourites.

Thanks for your suggestions

Here is another example of the Ming colourway: http://www.burgh-le-marshfurnishings.co.uk/Mdina%20globe%201970-80s.JPG

You can see the same pattern of parallel lines and the bubbly yellow interior running onto the rim. No other glass works that I know of has used this combination. It is distinctly Mdina. Your vase will likely have been made in the mid 1970s, probably during the time that Eric Dobson was running the company.

 Thanks for that, I am definitely convinced. It is funny that two of our favourite pieces, this one and the knobbly blue bottle are Medina. We have been to Malta frequently on holiday because of the glass works but had no idea that these were Medina.
Thanks again.
