Hi, I was wondering if anyone on this forum can ID my fruit bowl please. It is clean despite the dusty looking picture. :)
It stands at 8 1/2"s, rim diameter is 8 3/4" and base diameter is 5". It has the most beautiful Aubergine colouring the actual bowl is frosty, I would appreciate any suggestions. thanks

Could we see a photo of the base please? It looks very much like it may come fromGordiola glass or Lafiore. I'll try and find another thread with similar items to link here for you to see. Pretty!
link here - you will need to read the whole thread as I questioned whether mine was Portuguese at first.

I think it is probably Gordiola glass because the base also looks the same as mine and mine has been id'd as Gordiola. However, I do remember reading that if it looked as though it has been finisihed on a stone then it would be lafiore. So still some wavering between the two but I do think it will be one of those two.

could be either but more probably Lafiore than Gordiola.
p.s. just to put your mind at ease: these things are NOT cheap.

Thanks guys.
Sadly my local library is short on reference books for glass or pottery, they are all last seen (date) items. So, I am very grateful for any comments I receive from the members here.
flying free, can you explain the difference between stone finish and ????????? ? I am sure I followed a link on your link above and saw a mention of the two finishes, but can not see it anymore.
Ivo, can I retire early from it's sales proceeds? :)

As I recall, Ivo has been recently over to Gordiola Glass and been looking at the pontil mark finish on the bases of lots of the pieces there. I believe what was meant was that the finish on the base of your compote, in the middle where the punty was removed after blowing, looks as though it has been ground with a stone (probably Lafiore then) whereas those at Gordiola glass that Ivo saw, all had a snapped off pontil mark (I think I remember being said). Ivo will correct me if I have interpreted that incorrectly.

p.s. your pics are great

flying free, thank you for explaining the difference between the two. :)
David Bailey need not worry. ;D
