Title: Glass Factory
Post by: beebtom on April 18, 2011, 05:59:42 PM
I am an avid amateur collector of Art Deco and Nouveau glass (particularly Schlevogt/Hoffman). I'd like to visit a working glass factory in UK or Europe where repros are being made as I know nothing about the manufacturing processes. Does anyone have advice ?
Much obliged.

Beebtom.

Welcome to the board. There are few (if any) places making pressed glass in the UK now but you can see studio glass made in a variety of places - not repro's though as these are mainly made in China etc.

There is also the Nazeing Glass Factory and Museum - details here: http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,17153.0.html which would be worth a visit if you can make it.

Also the Broadfield House Glass Museum at Kingwinsford, in the West Midlands, has a resident glassmaker and a hot glass shop where you can see glassmaking happen.

Some of the glass fairs also have demonstrations and we have some working glassmakers who are board members who have open days etc...  these details are posted in our Events forum. Hope this helps. :)
