Title: Kralik? pale & iridescent, with a twist and amber tadpoles with blobs
Post by: flying free on April 21, 2011, 06:35:14 PM
I've been resisting putting this on, sure that I would find a match, but the only match I found was attributed to Harrach, and I'm not sure it is.  I thought it must be Kralik - I can find a match for the type of glass, colour and finish, but not for the twisted shape or the amber tadpoles with the blob eyes in the middle of them. Approx 5 1/4" tall by 4 1/4" wide
Help would be much appreciated  :)
Many thanks

I haven't looked at this vase properly for a long time and today I brought it out to put with my vases with prunts.

I realised why I loved this vase when I bought it - it glows under lighting, the prunts and trails are golden amber but the eye of each prunt is ruby red.

Is there any possibility this might be English rather than Bohemian?  And has anyone seen any Webb's glass like this, with the iridescence and the ribbed twisted effect?

I'm attaching better pictures.
Thanks for looking :)

This was Keith's thread on a similar iridescent twisted ribbed piece but the tadpoles are striped green and slightly different shape.  It has a similarish feel to a Walsh piece I had but not quite the same.  That's not to say it isn't though I guess. http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,49402.msg278564.html#msg278564

It has the same diagonal ribbing not something I remember seeing in similar Kralik pieces,I'll go and have another look.I did see recently a piece sold at auction,Fiedings I think, that was attributed to 'Stourbridge'  ;D

No, I checked and couldn't see Kralik versions of this.
I have given  the link to Fielding's saying 'Stourbridge'  ;D  but how do they know?

I've come across something called the Webb's Moire Suite.  It's real hard to see whether or not it is the same kind of glass though.  It's a catalogue ad and appears to be iridescent with the ribbing, but I can't tell whether the glass is as fine as these and there are no vases like these pictures (jug, bowl, goblet but no vases) and none of the pieces have prunts/trails.

Just for future reference in case the Fielding's link disappears, on rechecking the auction they also mentioned possibly Stuart.

I came across this today.  A listing for a purple smooth surfaced iridescent biscuit barrel with three applied tadpole prunts and trails that appear very similar to those on my vase.  They also curve around the body of the barrel.  The barrel is not ribbed and does not have a polished pontil mark where my vase is ribbed and does have a polished pontil mark.
The barrel sold for E223.00 and had 22 bids, Identified as Josephinenhutte but no reference source I could check as do not have the books.

I think yours and mine are the same maker as I've said Keith.

However I'm not convinced by my post just above yours.  Granted the prunts look similar to those on the barrel, but the Josephinenhutte doesn't feel right to me.  And the prunts and trails on yours and mine are not iridised where they are on the barrel.
Or maybe I need more evidence or something  ;D  Anyway, just thought it was interesting.
