Happy Easter all, I'm assuming this piece is Scandiniavian having small bubbles, feels a quality heavy vase, (one of my favourites so please be kind). The base is unsigned and polished flat, measure's 6.5 inches high, any idea's on the maker?.
Robert.

I'm assuming this piece is Scandiniavian having small bubbles,
That's a bad assumption. Controlled bubbles are used in numerous places.
The colours remind me of pieces that are thought to be Japanese

But the style of heavy vase with tiny controlled bubbles and colours reminds me of some Caithness Studio work.
Although the colours I've seen in the Caithness bits were turquoises, greens and amethysts. :spls:

Sorry Christine, I'm sure you know what they say about assumption's, The only reason I assumed Scandi is, I was previously reading a thread on here somewhere about bubbles and that the larger the bubble was more likely to be Italian, and that the smaller the bubble was an indication to be probably Scandi, sorry again for being a little confused. Is Japan really a contender for this piece and are they on par with Chinese glass? :or:... The colours in this piece are orange, green and pink.
Thanks Sue, one is hoping that the origin's of the piece is a little closer to home than the far east. :X:
Thanks both.

The Japanese glass industry is quite old and much of it is good/very good quality (Their 19th C cut glass is on a par with British and Irish of the same period). It's not on a par with modern Chinese glass in the sense that it is not churned out in a never mind the quality feel the width way with little regard to design. (Some Chinese glass is very good, however.)
I don't know where your vase was made but I would say it was not Chinese.
I think my point is don't generalise. Bubble size is only a clue, and maybe not even that.

Won't happen again. :ooh:

It's easy; we all do it. :kissy:

Those small even bubbles and remind me of a Small dish I have by Galliano Ferro (see photos). I suggest you look up their website.

Does not strike me as Galliano Ferro, or even Italian at all...... Also does not strike me as Scandinavian......

I would like to thank everyone for all there input, I looked at the site Ross suggested, even tho its thought not to be, anyway I've never heard of Galliano Ferro, so if anything I'm learning about other maker's, also I have looked at Japanese and Caithness, but on both accounts came up with nothing. I'm not saying that its not still a possibility to be one of the latter, just that I couldn't find anything, so still at a loose end with this, Any info is appreciated.

The colours reminded me of a Vas Vitreum , Sweden, vase I have. Hardly typical Scandinavian colours but there you go.

Soon as I posted I thought also of Harrachov, who did use bubbles. See this Harrtil piece. Oh the dangers of identifying by colours.

Very odd piece alfie. The colours remind me of some Hineri pieces I have seen but the bullicante throws me! The Japanese have rarely used bullicante in there pieces. Am either wondering if it could be studio glass Japanese piece or further afield to Eastern Europe. Even the shape of it is something I have not seen in Japanese Glass.
The bullicante looks very good and the colour of the clear glass is excellent. It looks well made.
Sorry, only scimmed through the responses. What is the weight of the piece?

I thought Czech when I saw it. I'm sure I've seen something similar id'd as Czechoslovakian. I'll have a search round.

It doesn't look like Caithness to me - I have a few books on them and there are no vases with controlled bubbles like this one.

Cyclone has controlled bubbles, page 87 if you have Mark Hill's book on Caithness.

Yes your right - my mistake - I am away from my books at present - well I have a few but not Mark Hill's book.

Regarding the colours I would also think Czech, Harrachov, possibly designed by Milan Metelak. >> Link (http://www.20thcenturyglass.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=67_225&products_id=3663&zenid=d4a0a6eca339203d6aaf0a8ed089eb97)

Hi all, thanks for all comments and info regarding this vase, appreciated, Kane the piece weighs 1.5 kilo's, so Czech is a good possibility. Thanks again
