What is it ?

Hi Wuff,
I wondered what it was too. I don't think it is Clichy.
I think it is modern and to me it has a Scottish feel. But it is complete guesswork, really.
The canes are nice.

Well, seeing as we are now discussing it....rather than bidding secretively on it ;D.....the paperweight looks to me very, very, very like a Riedel. The dome shape is rather 'high', and the canes are vanishing round the sides, so I think it is repolished.

Oups! I got that one wrong!! :thud:
Obviously, I would not recognise a Riedel even if it hit me in the face!! :pb: :pb: :pb:

PS: the paperbags are for protection in case, it did hit me in the face!!

Well - my first(!) thought was Scottish as well - Phoenix, to be more specific, as they made a somewhat similar one .... but then it should include a PP cane, most likely be signed on the base, the base setup didn't fit and the Phoenix dome would be lower.
Conclusion - not Phoenix, not Clichy - but otherwise no idea
Thank you for you comment, Alan, Riedel sounds plausible - but is not my area of expertise.

Hi Wuff,
Phoenix had also crossed my mind!!! (A case of 'great/not so great' minds [speaking for me] think alike...) ;D

I do understand why one might think Scottish, and Phoenix - but the translucent green ground with mica flakes is typical Riedel. And the fact that I can match some canes to the Riedel that sits on my computer desk helps...

PS. PCC Newsletter 101 - see the closepack challenge article, which has images of Riedel and Phoenix closepacks amongst others.

And a copy of either of Peter Von Breckel's books ("Post-classic" or "Classic") on Bohemian / Silesian weights would also be helpful as they show good examples and discussion of Riedel weights. ;D

Hi Kevin,
You are absolutely right. In my case, you need to add that reading the books once bought is another necessary step!!! ;D
