Someone has a sense of humour ;D
-
:hi: There are some rare baby W/Fs ducks but that aint one of them .
-
Someone has a sense of humour ;D
You could say they are quackers! :chky:
-
no this is not a whitefriars baby duck,
whitefriars baby ducks are so rare and hard to find and so cute
-
So what will the buyer say.....it had several bids????? :usd:
Rosie. :sun:
-
it is only £10 they can always send it back,
-
I thought I just read that you had lots of them in twilight Pinky???? Now the message has gone? Am I seeing things??
Rosie. :sun:
-
sorry about that i wrote the message wrong sorry again
-
I am a new member on here have not quite got the hang of it yet
-
do you collect alot of whitefriars glass then rosie?
-
Hi Pinky, and welcome! :hi:
I was starting to think I was seeing things!!
You are doing pretty fine.....
Actually, I don't possess a single piece of Whitefriars glass....not even a Dilly Duck!
I only see these things because I have Glass duck in the favourite search engine on eBay, so when they come up, I see them, and can recognise a wrongly attributed one.
Interestingly, the seller knows it isn't a Whitefriars duck, because I messaged him, so I assume he told the buyer??!
There is another one on eBay at the moment, the same shape with grotty bubbles......I told that seller as well!! Sometimes I think they really do believe they are Whitefriars, other times I think they are trying it on?
My main collecting thing is glass birds and animals.....got about 600 now, but must downsize the collection or get a bigger house!
Rosie. :sun:
-
yes i agree some people do get the whitefriars ducks wrong but call it whitefriars anyway.
600 wow that is a lot of glass rosie,
I specifically collect glass animals too mainly whitefriars.
I am always on a look out to add to my collection.
-
Hope all your relatives birthdays went well Pinky. Welcome to the board. :)
Out of interest how many Sky Blue ducks do you own now?
-
If this is our beloved Pinky speedy i sold her my first precious sky blue duck and gave her a sky blue ring tree with it . :hi:
Second thoughts me thinks this is A N Other Pinky ?
-
hi, everyone
Thanks nemmie for welcoming me to the board.
sorry I don't know who pinky speedy is,but she has got a great name!!!
I have 5 sky blue ducks thanks for asking, I am trying to fill up my window sill with sky blues, such a lovely colour.
If anyone wants to sell me sky blue number 6 let me know!
I am also up for swaps.
I started collecting whitefriars animals since october, Now have 69 ducks in total, What inspired me to collecting was every weekend I would go out to the lake to feed the ducks, which i loved. one day i came home and was looking on ebay when i saw a glass duck, and thought wow he is stunning I bought him then i was hooked. I love ducks and I love beautiful colours so whitefriars ducks were a perfect match for me. now whenever i see a whitefriars duck i like, i just have to have it, even if it does leave me broke most of the time. financially poor but rich in ducks lol.
-
Lol
-
Hi agani Pinky :hi:
That's a lot od Dilly Ducks!! Interestingly, I started with ducks as well....Selkirk Ducks....same reason...the form and colour. I am trying to collect one of each size in each colour.....then got sidetracked by birds and animals......but am still on the lookout for more Selkirk Ducks....selling duplicates to buy different ones. Why don't you put a picture of your collection of Ducks on the 'Show me yours and I'll show you mine thread? We would all love to see them.
Rosie. :sun:
-
Hi rosie,
Can you please show me how i can find that thread show me yours and i show you mine?
-
WOW !!!!
What a wonderful collection of ducks you have already and in so little time too!
Share with us please the secret of your success, amazed you have managed to amass 5 sky blues in such a short time you must be a very clever young lady indeed.
Love the bit of how you got hooked on collecting in the first place such a heart warming story and so refreshing particularly in these days of the 'dog eat dog' methods a lot of collectors seem to have adopted these days.
Has someone who as grafted for 12 years scouring the carboots, charity shops antique fairs the length and breadth of the country and never even seen one I am well impressed well done.
Chris :sun:
-
thanks Chris,
I guess I must of been lucky with the sky blues, I thought I would never find one, Then they seem to pop up out of nowwhere!!
I think the key for me was buying them at any cost, Even if it did leave me broke for a while. I have a full time job working 40 hours a week, all the money i get i spend on ducks, ducks mean more to me then money, I think thats the secret.
-
Hi Pinky, me again!!
Here is the thread to put your pictures in:

There are LOADS of 'em!
Rosie. :sun:
-
yes rosie lol,
if anyone needs any information about whitefriars ducks I am your lady.
:sun:
-
Well Pinky, perhaps you could explain to me why this one has an odd beak....it looks odd to me anyway!!
Is the clue in the word Diffy instead of Dilly??

Platypus billed duck? :-[
John
-
I have sent a message to seller and asked if there were any imperfections,
he replied in close inspection there is a line running through the base of the foot towards the back,I think the winning bidder may be a bit disappointed when they receive him, especially at that price.
As for the nose, maybe he has been telling porkies like pinocchio! Remember all these ducks are hand-made so vary in style, I think this is an earlier duck from the 50s ;)
-
rosie you said you had a lot of glass would you be able to send me some pictures of all of your glass to my email address
I have a lot of glass to rosie and i am willing to trade or sell
-
Hi Pinky......well, most of my glass is in the 'show me yours and I'll show you mine' link....when you have finished trawling through all of it, you will see a lot of mine.....I have a couple of pieces I am selling, but although I know I MUST downsize the collection, every time I pick a few, I put half of them back and buy more!! I am sure you know the feeloig! For instance, I have bought 2 and sold 0 today!! :help:
What sort of animals do you have for sale?......I can feel my pocket money desperately trying to get out!!
Rosie. :sun:

OK Pinky, but remove your email from your note and just add it to the info you filled in when you joined...that way you will have a little envelope by your name, only accessible to members who log in....keeps you safe from spammers. I have asked a Moderator to amend your last link.
Rosie. :sun:

:hi: Tonight Matthew i am going to be Pokerstarpinky. ;D :24:
-
What are you on JP? :huh2:
-
Thats the Ebay name that Pinky uses.
She is quite famous at Whitefriars.com.
-
LOL! So famous in fact she has had to change her ebay ID twice since making her debut as pokerstarpinky. :ho:
The price of fame :24:
-
Nemmie I believe you meant infamous , nes pas ? - sans prejudice - without prejudice -been watching too much Hercule Poirot .
-
Actually I was going to say notorious. ;)
-
Hi Denver, I knew what you meant when you first posted, was rolling about with laughter, you cheeky Blighter!!!LOL!
Warmest Wishes,
John
-
Am I missing something here???? :ho:
-
Rosie if you see a maggot bobbing up and down in front of you dont bite it or you will end up with a hook thru your lip .
PS jomo who is denver ?
-
Sounds 'fishy' to me.....JP, :pb:
-
I am Denver. I have known John for a long time.
-
I thought you were Nemmi, not Annie?? :24:
-
thanks cathy for the information on how to change my email
-
hi rosie how are you?
-
Not really up on the prices of the 'early' ones Pinky do you think the buyer got a deal? considering has you say it's damaged looks a good deal to me considering a sapphire went for around £250 the other week?
http://offer.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBids&_trksid=p4340.l2565&item=150602801392
Sapphire one......
http://offer.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBids&_trksid=p4340.l2565&item=120706554655
-
Personally, I don't have any Dilly Ducks....I think they are over-rated compared to the beautiful Murano and Scottish pieces. There is little artistic merit in the W/F ducks....and IMHO most Whitefriars glass looks heavy and clumsy.........so, Chris, and you other W/F officionados......what have you got to say to that!!
-
I think the sapphire one was a larger size chris.
I think the price is probably about right for small early duck,
did you see the artic blue intermediate duck that sold for over £100, not listed as an intermediate, just as dilly duck.
rosie, different styles for different personalities i guess, I love all types of glass animals, and your collection is beautiful rosie. :sun:
-
Rosie, Please don't turn this into a "my glass is better than yours thread". It not only sounds foolish, but is foolish, as all glass has its merits, I am an Afficionado of all glass, just happen to have chosen Whitefriars as my preferred choice.
But back to the duck topic............
-
I think I started the thread..... :usd:
-
Rosie, a couple of birds here will hopefully change your mind
https://picasaweb.google.com/107067405711297858658/WhitefriarsBirds?authkey=Gv1sRgCL6e37GZqvLIDA#
Chris :sun:
-
OK Chris...I give in....but you did choose my favourite colour!! Actually, I must admit, I have always liked the swans. :pb:
Glad you liked my collection Pinky.
-
you like gold colours then rosie?
I see in your collection of glass you have gold glass lovely colour
-
yes rosie i love your collection dont let anyone tell you otherwise. :sun:
-
I think I started the thread..... :usd:
You can't own a discussion but you can participate in one. This is a shared space.
John
-
But we can express an opinion, surely John? Others have, on their glass preferences. :spls:
-
Of course Rosie. Some threads almost have a life of their own (within reason), attempting to channel them may well just end up choking them though. You never know when some interesting nugget of info will prove useful.
John
Saying that, I suppose some threads are far more open ended and diverse than others.
-
And some threads are just bewildering. :ooh: :pb:
-
I thought you were Nemmi, not Annie?? :24:
You have lost me here. And its Nemmie or Nem for short :p
-
Nemmi, you made a reference to Denver....John Denver wrote 'Annies song'....a bit esoteric, I know, but it was meant to be a clever play on words!! :pb:
-
Rosie, his REAL name is Denver!!! 8) And as he has already explained, we have known each other for many years.
Warmest Wishes,
John
